" As a corrugator of 35 years
standing, I am acutely aware of the problems associated with wet
corrugated sheets produced in the conventional 3 rollers sheets
pasting machines. In these machines it is difficult to control gum
release as 1mm to 1.5mm thick gum bangles are formed on the gum
application rollers.
| These gum bangles not only apply
excess gum on the corrugated liners but also appply gum
on the inside of corrugated flutes which is not at all
required, leading to production of wet corrugated sheets
having washboard tendencies. Also in the 3 roller pasting
machines the gum setting and pressure setting is not achieved
properly because the setting has to be done from both
sides of the machine, leading to uneven setting of glue
as the setting is done manually. |
|
Also the 3 roller
pasting machine, leads to higher gum release and wetter boards
which take longer time to cure. The corrugated sheets produced
on these pasting machines need curing time of 7 to 8 hours before
they can be further processed.
I have overcome
the shortcomings of a 3 roller pasting machine by developing a
4 roller pasting machine in the year 1993. In this machine, pressure
roller and gum application roller is set only from one side and
the other side setting takes place automatically. Also the gum
settings can be done very minutely and the gum is released exactly
as per one's requirement. This is because all the rollers are
balanced, geared and hard chrome plated with 0.02 accuracy . As
a result the right quantity of gum is applied only on the
tips of the corrugated flutes resulting in drier corrugated sheets.
Gloss impression of flute can be seen on top paper/board resulting
in better finish having uniform adhesion which can be further
processed after only 1 hour. Further, there is a saving
of 25% in gum consumption.
Thus,
in the 4 roller machine, faster production, excellent quality corrugated
sheets and 25% gum saving is achieved and I am proud to serve
our corrugatted industry better by developing this machine."
